2 months…

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

I'd like to say I've been busy. But unless being busy being lazy counts... As an apology for being away so long, few words many pictures.

Lizzie Kate Flip-Its complete through June. One day I'll get a good picture of this. Threads as charted, fabric Bo Peep Pink lugana.

Christmas at Hawk Run Hollow, over 1 with NPI on 40ct. Tape measure so you can see just how small this works up.

Snow Queen's Slipper. Stitched as charted, 2010 taken from Black Velvet sampler.

Matching scissor sheath. The scissors are from Dinky Dyes. There is a matching fob, I have it stitched, but still have to do the finishing. I do have a step by step photo tutorial on my Facebook account, message me if you need help in finishing. (note, you will need to buy the kit! my tutorial will only help you if you own the design)

Box I made for the Chatelaine smalls exchange. The top is from Medieval Town Mandala, the box itself is made from yellow silk dupioni (which is a match for the yellow silk in the roses, it didn't photograph well).  Making Hand Sewn Boxes is where I found the directions for box making.

And this was what I received in exchange! It's so much prettier in person. Stitched on Opal fabric for extra sparkle. Japanese Box is one of my favorite Chatelaine designs so this made me extra happy.

I've also been doing some reading (as always). My current favorite series is Downside Ghosts, the series starts with Unholy Ghosts and book 3 City of Ghosts is releasing on Tuesday. If  you like Urban Fantasy at all do yourself a favor and go buy these.

I have more photos (somewhere... need to sort things) and I have finished Mom's quilt. I'm hoping to be back more often, but don't count on it until school starts. And since we're starting to get close... Yes, there will be a Halloween giveaway this year. So don't quit on me when I don't have much to show for the next 2 or 3 months. ;)

This is what a productive weekend looks like

at least at my house.

I've finished stitching on the Mira RRs!!! The treasures etc that I had to order for Gardenia arrived Friday so I took the hint and got to stitching.

Little miss is blinged out!

She fits right in. :D

Then I decided enough was enough and I was going to get caught up on my LK flip it blocks.

Started remember around 5 pm, finished give at 11:40pm. And I took a hour (at least) break in there. These stitch quick!

I was rollin' this weekend. Today I cut out all the fabric for my tote bag.

Tomorrow I need to cut all the interfacings (19 pieces) and iron them to their matching fabrics, we're sewing the bags together Tuesday at quilt group so this has to be done. I also need to run out to the hardware store and buy my dowels (they're used for structuring the opening edges of the bag). I also need to get in there and clean the kitchen; I mean it doesn't stink - but there are  a few dishes piled up in the sink. But in my defense I had to grocery shop today and I did do 3 loads of laundry.

Block A Month

Remember way back when, in those heady days of New Year's goal setting and feeling flush from the huge finish of HoHRH?

Well I had set a goal of stitching just one of those cute little LK flip its a month. They only take me about 3-4 hours a piece. Easy Peasy. They are if you actually bother to stitch them. Anyway, finally finished February - Love.

I'm hoping to get caught up after I finish Annette's Mira RR, which the beads/treasures I was missing arrived today.  Between cross stitches I'll also be working on cutting out and fusing the interfacings to the pieces of my new (hopefully) tote bag.

My quilt group is doing this as a group project. So I should have help when I need it. Notice when, not if. The bottom most fabric will be my outside body fabric, middle is the lining and outside pocket fabric, top most is the inside pocket & accent fabric.

Down in the Melissa Blogs links I added a new one. It's mine! I'm sick to death of the pissing match between publishers/Amazon/Apple over book prices.  In response I've started a separate blog where I highlight books that if I had purchased them all the parties involved (including the authors who aren't getting much of a say in this) would have made money off of me.

Off to a good start

Gah, the colors photographed badly.  Eh, I'll get over it. LK's Double Flips '08 are this year's monthly project, I'm stitching them all together on one piece of Bo Peep Pink 28ct. Lugana. So fast compared to HoHRH. ;)

I think tomorrow I'll pull ATS out (yes And They Sinned - it's still handy, not packed away at the bottom of a closet). Again seriously doubt that it will be finished this year, but I have hope for '11. Maybe. If I actually work on it. And if I don't work on it tomorrow, blame Bluebell. She's calling my name from her drawer.

Now for the obligatory goals portion. I did well with my reading last year. I almost completed 4 25 Book Challenges & was successful in not buying as many books as I have in past years (yes - this is a problem for me, I can & will spend $50 per week on books if I'm not careful). And when I figure in the books I re-read (which I didn't include in the Challenges) & the books I read before I started the first 25 I know I've read more than 100 books this year. Probably in the 110-120 range. I'll go ahead and do something similar this year with a couple tweaks. I need to get some of my massive hoard read, I have 3 overflowing bookshelves of TBR books. I will be reading in groups of 28, and I will be reading 3 to 1. Which means 3 books out of every 4 must be from my hoard (and only 1 of the hoard may be a Kindle edition)  and the 1 may be from the public library. After every 28 I will be allowed to buy ONE book.

Quilting goals: Finish Over The River by October & send it in for quilting. Start and finish at least 6 blocks of one of my needleturn quilts. Or 3 or each. Finish the 101 Sampler or the Hush-a-bye kit that was a Christmas gift. Finish Zelda's Hat.

Cross stitch: Monthly Flip Its. Shakespeare's Fairies, Bluebell, Caribbean - all finished. Get to at least the top of page 3 of ATS. Work on Misty Morning Vineyard and start Sea of Roses HAED. I will also start another Project Challenge - because check it out! I finished 50 Projects this year. :D :D :D I think the new challenge will be 30. And I'm going to try much harder to stick to the no-buy rule until 30 are finished rule. I did fair to ok with the 50. It was a definite improvement over the amount of buying I had been doing which makes it a win IMHO.

I DID IT I DID IT I DID IT!!!!

Houses of Hawk Run Hollow was finished at 10:50pm (cst) December 31st 2009.

Unwashed, unpressed, and laid across the back of the couch.

Aw... a bunny! Mostly I'm just thrilled that it's done & that 2009 I put up there in that very first block is true. I'll be washing & ironing it today between bits of Christmas packing up and putting away.  HoHRH is going to my mother - she was bugging me that she needed another big piece (she has Mother's Tree) for over another couch in her house so I made this her Christmas present. Monday it'll be off to Jill for framing (I do the labor, Mom pays the framer - which is the other reason she gets this. I can't afford to frame it right now and it'll be better off framed and hanging somewhere rather than in limbo with all my other finished but not finished projects.).

For the curious, finished size is 26 -1/4" x 19-1/2" approx.  It was stitched on a half yard cut of 28ct.  French Country Linen in Cashmere using 2 strands of DMC cotton throughout.

Hmmm.... it's 2010 - what am I going to stitch? ;) After a brief bout of insanity when Darlene O'Steen's Berlin Woolwork Sampler was considered, then maybe Indigo Rose's Desiderata, or should I just pull 12 smallish things from the stash and make them my monthly stitch - this morning The Project called my name. Remember Lizzie Kate's Double Flips from 2008? Well I've had them kitted since late '08 early '09 and after the huge amount of work that went into HoHRH I'm ready for something simple and sweet this year. Berlin Woolwork - next year. lol I don't know if I'll actually stitch today, Christmas really does need to be put up and I've got two books that I'm reading calling my name (Cape Storm & My Dead Body - need to add those to Goodreads too).

I'm not real big on resolutions & such but I will admit to wanting to get more than a couple of my WIPs finished. We'll see how that goes... Well, Happy New Year everyone & may you get all you wish for (but only the stuff that's actually good for you).
